The Social Media Club at Texas
State accepts anyone as a member. Officers Joe Trevino and Alyssa Vidales say
that the club will gladly accept members from all majors with all types of
experiences. There is no membership dues collected which enables anybody the
opportunity to join the club. The Social Media Club aims to adjust to a media
driven society by using its members that possess skills in all ends of the
spectrum. While one member may fall short on a specific media front, another is
capable of effectively controlling a website or account to better the club as a
whole.
The club
was the first Social Media Club in Texas at a university level; however, it
experienced trying years when most of the contributors graduated leaving the
club with very few active members. Currently, the two officers are attempting
to revive interest in the club with help from their sponsor, Cindy Royal. As
media professionals, social media has a considerable impact on our lives as a
whole. This club attempts to improve our knowledge on popular social media
sites as a marketplace of ideas. Any Texas State student is invited to attend
meetings which can be found on their blog, Facebook, or Twitter. While the club
may have fewer members than other clubs on campus, the people and experience
can turn anyone from a media amateur into a seasoned professional.
